Emigration has been a characteristic of this locality, having as a co-patron Our Lady of the Good Trip (Nuestra Señora del Buen Viaje). That is why the remittances of the emigrants became a pillar of the local economy.
This municipality’s main economic activity has been agriculture, specially in the midlands. Potato crops, cereals, grape fields and plant fodder for cattle have been the usual harvests of the dwellers for centuries.
It is the only place on the island of Tenerife where six vegetable patches for threshing, practically joined, can be located.
